Tabitha what’s the best part of my job is…
Having the privilege of sharing in peoples health journeys as they work through often quite serious health concerns. It always feels so humbling to have some involvement in turning people’s health around for the better.
On a larger scale, I love that I am able to inspire and educate people on how to best support their individual health needs, and in particular when it comes to working with women, babies and families, hope that my work is to the benefit of future generations.
I chose to enter this field of work because…
With a Bachelor of Medical Science under my belt by the ripe old age of 21, I knew that the Graduate Medicine was just not for me, after having worked as a Receptionist in a busy General Practice for 4 years through out my studies. I felt frustrated for the GP’s and their ‘tool box’ of pharmaceuticals – so to speak. I knew that it would take a far broader toolbox to keep me satisfied in a Clinical role. For me, that entailed further studies in both Nutritional & Environmental medicine, and Western Herbal Medicine, and taking an educating role to help clients understand their own unique body better.
I was driven to work WITH nature rather than against it.
My passion has always been health & people, and I feel the luckiest woman in the world to be working in a field that I have so much passion and drive for.
If I could give one piece of advice to my 18-year-old self, it would be…
With passion, integrity, and a bit of hard work, you can achieve anything you desire.
Trust in the Universe in supporting your process. And remember that any challenges you encounter are actually brilliant opportunities for growth. Don’t forget to slow down sometimes, there is magic in smelling the roses. Tabitha, spend as much quality time as you possibly can with those beautiful children that you will be blessed with: cherish them and every moment.
My greatest achievement has been…
A recent trip to Cambodia (May 2014) where I was involved in some large scale Community Health work, through the Song Saa Foundation. I performed paediatric Health Assessments on hundreds of disadvantaged children. In several remote villages on the Island of Koh Rong, and also interviewed Traditional Birthing Assistants in five different Villages to discover their most debilitating challenges. So that I could compile their data into a report for International Medical Relief Organisation to offer some relief. Training and medicines too. It was amazing for me to share this expanding experience with my own Children. A true marriage of purpose, my passion for making a difference, and sharing this with my family. I still feel elated about the experience a year down the track and hope to return again (for the third time) this year.
I don’t understand why…
…all Physicians don’t embrace a treatment approach which is unique to each individual, respects the Body’s own innate intelligence, and relies on Natures bounty of medicinal offerings.
I try to relax by…
Breath is my medicine. Yoga soothes me and brings it all together for me. I am currently half way through my Yoga Teacher training (I am pretty hooked on self-cultivation!). But when I just can’t get to Yoga, my Breath is my best friend.
I can’t live without…
The beach, Yoga, my two beautiful children and dark chocolate!
The greatest lesson I have learnt is….
Effort and Ease are equally important in life.
If I had one super power, it would be….
I have always wanted a teleport button so I could be anywhere I chose without the bore of long distance travel!
