ENTREPRENEURS: HOW TO KEEP GOING WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH
It’s the best personal development program in the world.
The process of building a business can strip you back. Expose you. Reveal all of your weaknesses. Leave you on your hands and knees, searching for the solution.
Searching for ‘something’.
And then one day, generally years after you first start your business, it finally starts to show up. The bills are now less than the invoices coming in. People are starting to come to you, instead of the other way around. You are finally being recognised for your work. After all, you knew you were awesome — you just needed other people to know it too, or you never would have had the challenges I briefly described.
So what would keep an entrepreneur going?
Why would someone take the leap and walk the path that I so honestly shared with you?
It’s about creation. It’s about turning an idea into reality. It’s about being, doing and having more than just the status quo.
For an entrepreneur, the status quo sucks. Seriously. It’s about doing things you never in your wildest dreams thought you could do — leaving an impact on the world today and well after you’re gone.
At least that’s what it’s about for me. I want people to know I was here, and my life mattered. Perhaps we’re aligned on that.
But the question still remains:
Why would somebody do this to them self and how do they keep going when the storm is rolling in?
I guess I’m a little more fortunate than the rest. Yes, I’ve walked this exact path myself. I’ve done the no money thing. I’ve been on my hands and knees. I’ve had my back against the wall. I also have the steely determination that entrepreneurs need to make sure things keep moving forward. The process of becoming and remaining an entrepreneur is the most rewarding thing on the planet.
Every single day as entrepreneurs, we get to chase our dreams. To battle ‘normal’. To do things others said we could never do.
So what can you do if you’re in the eye of the storm right now?
You’re in the tunnel and you can’t see the end of it?
What’s the solution?
It’s remaining focused on why you started in the first place.
What was the reason you threw out the normal tag and took the leap?
What did you want to create?
Who did you want to impact?
Many people will call this, “knowing your why”. Why you got started in the first place is a great place to start, but you also need to be very clear about where you’re going and what that will look like.
Without that vision, you will never keep going. Otherwise what are you chasing after? What is all the hard work for?
You must remain focused on the outcome. Why you started and why you want to keep going right now.
Is it to change the world?
Is it to provide your family the life that you never had?
Is it to prove to yourself that you can do it?
Is it to stick it to that person who said that you never could or never would?
Is it to leave a legacy?
Personally, I don’t mind. All of these are 100% acceptable reasons. You may have many more — they’re all great, too.
So how do you keep going when the going gets tough?
Stay outcome focused. Realign with why you started and why you’re doing it today. It will give you the inspiration you need. It will drive you forward when the fear is ringing through your head. It will change your life.
I can tell you from my own personal experience that it is a tough road. I can also tell you it’s the best thing in the world and I wouldn’t give it up for anything. Yes, I gave you a very brief but real understanding of what it’s about. It’s not easy.
But I promise you, it will be worth it.
